Is Windows Defender enough for protecting Windows 10?

No part of the digital world is untouched from the virus, malware attacks, or cyberattacks. Be it your device, social media platforms, or e-commerce websites, every sector is prone to get infected. There are a number of new forms of malware taking place in today’s world naming spyware, ransomware, etc.

If you have the slightest of the ideas about these practices, you would know that detecting and removing them in real-time is not possible by a human being provided an antivirus solution is installed on his device.

Our connected-world is always under the scrutiny of scammers who are looking for loopholes to target our devices with scams and Windows 10 is no exception.

Hence, keeping this in mind, Microsoft has developed its very own security software known as Windows Defender. The said built-in software came into being when Windows 8 was released and continued to Windows 10 as well.

The software claims to protect your Windows device with its anti-malware properties that scan your computer thoroughly for the presence of any infection.

But, the main question that comes to many users’ minds is if Windows Defender is enough to protect it against the latest malware, threats, and infections.

The answer is yes as well as no

Now, you must be wondering why the answer is both positive as well as negative. So, to answer this question we will try looking at both aspects.

Looking at its positive sides, we can say that Microsoft keeps striving hard to make improvements in its security software. It keeps on rolling out frequent updates that define its feature to well comply with the latest threats.

Other than this, Windows Defender is capable of detecting some malicious files and helps you to get rid of them on a real-time basis. Also, it offers all the security features that are present in any other antivirus available in the market. The most amazing thing about this software is that you do not need to deal with pop-ups and get annoyed with their presence, and hence for basic security Defender is more than enough for you.

But that’s not enough if you scrutinize the security software closely. And, this leads to the question of whether you need additional security software or not.

Do you need added security with Windows?

Now, we will look at the negative side of the coin. Some users have reportedly faced issues with the software. This makes the users feel the need of opting for antivirus software other than Windows Defender.

They also feel that the software is not capable of dealing with emerging cyber threats. The software might not be able to examine your web browsing activities and malicious websites. Those who mistakenly click on a suspicious link might have to undergo a huge loss giving to the installation of malware on your device.

So, in concluding we can say that installing an effective antivirus is the need of the hour and will provide your device with additional security. It is up to the user to decide if he needs an additional layer of security or happy with the basic security which Window Defender offers.
